In the context of sports betting, the term unit refers to 1% of a punter‘s total bankroll. For example, if you had a budget of $5,000 for betting on Bundesliga football matches, you would look at it as being made up of 100 units worth $50. If, by the end of the season, you ended up with 1,000$ worth of profit, you would say that you made a profit of 20 units (6,000 ÷ 50 = 120) 

Why Do Punters Measure Their Winnings in Units?

Units are used by punters as a universal yard stick for objectively comparing their betting successes. The total amount of money won cannot be used as such a measurement since punters have vastly differing bankrolls (e.g. some players are high rollers while others are low rollers)
