RTP (Return to Player)

In the context of slot gambling, RTP or return-to-player figure is the percentage of money that a machine is programmed to pay out to its players over its lifetime.

Classic, mechanical slot machines were truly random as the result of the spin largely depended on the force with which the player pulled the lever. In this way, they were similar to regular table games, such as blackjack and roulette. Modern, electronic slots, on the other hand, are interconnected and can be programmed to pay out a set percentage of the total bet amount over their lifespan.

Alongside volatility and hit rate, RTP is one of the main criteria slot players need to keep in mind when choosing a slot to play. Other factors may include such features as progressive jackpot and feature buy mechanics.

When playing online, it is important to choose a trustworthy venue whose payout percentages are audited by a reputable agency, such as eCOGRA.
